frosted window film

When you want privacy in your office building, a lot of options come to mind. You wonder whether to use frosted window films or frosted glass for that matter. While both seem to serve the same purpose, there are tiny details that define both options. The two words are used interchangeably which is why we decided to compile this blog post. Here, we will be looking at the definitions of frosted window films and frosted glass, the pros, cons, and whether they are suitable for your commercial building. So, let’s dive in!

What is frosted window film?

A frosted window film is a type of window film that is layered onto a window or glass surface for decorative or privacy reasons. Frosted window film prevents people from both ends from seeing through the window. It is easy to remove and can be replaced in case of any damages or wear and tear.

What is frosted glass?

Frosted glass is an altered piece of glass either added a frosted layer inside or is completely frosted in the texture. It is a permanent modification of the glass and can't be reversed. It is also used for decorative purposes or for privacy reasons.

What makes frosted film and frosted glass similar?

Both frosted film and frosted glass serve the same purpose in a commercial space- privacy and decoration. They will both prevent people from outside from seeing what is happening in your building. It is an effective way of hiding sensitive information from onlookers or potential thieves who might be scouting for valuables. Both have a professional visual appeal and do not intrude on the space created in your room.

What are some of the differences between frosted window film and frosted glass?

Both products are almost similar in appearance, there are a number of differences between frosted glass and frosted film. We’ll break down the differences into three:

Cost

The cost of buying frosted glass is thousands of dollars per pane, depending on the size of the window. It is even more expensive for a commercial setting as the requirements may be more. Typically, frosted window films are cheap and will cost a fraction of what you would spend buying frosted glass. A frosted glass going for around $1500 can be had with a frosted window film alternative at a whopping $100. When we compare the two in terms of cost, the gap is too big.

Quality

The level of precision that frosted window films use to mimic the real glass is so high that you can confuse the two from a distance. The print is clear, customizable, and at times even superior to etched or frosted glass. Even though frosted glass gives an excellent texture, the level of quality of frosted films allows you to use them in office buildings.

Installation and lead time

There is a long process involved when getting your office ready for frosted window installation. Getting your required frosted glass ready will take a lot of sandblasting, using acids, and other laborious techniques. Even a simple DIY requires tens of steps to come up with a single pane of frosted glass. Frosted films take a significantly shorter time both to design and lay on top of the glass. This is a major advantage as it does not disrupt office work for long during installation. In some cases, you don’t even have to send employees home to install frosted window films.

What are the benefits of frosted glass?

The major perk of frosted glass is durability. If you have an office space with tons of traffic, it might be a good idea to use frosted glass as it’ll last for long while maintaining its purpose. For instance, you can use frosted glass in medical facilities where kids can poke the windows easily. It is easy to clean frosted glass since it does not streak. The textured surface makes it easy to remove particles with a cleaner and microfiber cloth.

Frosted glass allows more natural light to pass through as it blocks UV rays to some extent. It creates a bright atmosphere in your office building, breathing life into your commercial space. Frosted glass is usually made with an extra layer of material that can double up as a safety mechanism.

What are the benefits of frosted window film?

As mentioned earlier, frosted window film is more affordable than frosted glass and can be a huge money saver for your business. It might not give the same durability features as frosted glass, but it has a long enough lifespan. Besides, frosted window film can be replaced at any time which is not possible with frosted glass.

Also, frosted window films allow you to be creative and make it easy to incorporate your brand’s theme or pattern into the film. The ability to customize your window film is a huge plus, especially for startups. It is easier to install frosted window film in a rented space than installing a new set of frosted windows. Frosted window films also act as UV light blockers although there are window films specifically designed to do this kind of work.

Common types of frosted glass and film products

Different tint experts have different frosted glass products. But, there are common ones that you can never miss. They include:

●      Plain frost. It is ideal for offices as it is subtle and does not affect the appearance of the glass.

●      White frosted window film. It has a more opaque texture and is a great option in areas where you need a lot more privacy.

●      Etched glass effect. They bring a little pop with color options. Ideal for casual areas in the office.

●      Static cling frosted film. It is easy to install and remove as no glue is required. While it is made for temporary uses, static cling films are ideal for rented commercial space.

As you can see, both frosted window film and frosted glass can be good additions to your commercial space. However, if you want a lasting solution, frosted glass does the trick, as long as you have enough capital to install. Frosted window films are flexible, replaceable, and cheaper so it may be wise for startups or businesses with a tight budget.
